  • Ed, Farah and MJ

Wow I feel like a large part of my childhood died this last week. Ed Mcmahon, Farah Fawcett and now Michael Jackson.

I remember seeing Ed on the late show those rare times I did get to stay up late.....Farah I watched religiously as a child when she was one of Charlie's Angels. Though I didn't agree with his behavior later in life, I loved Michael when he was younger. I remember when he was part of the Jackson 5 and they would appear on TV and then when the Thriller album hit the shelves, I spent my hard earned allowance on a copy of it....it's still one of my favorite albums.

  • A tad sad..John and Kate

I'm a tad sad today. I've been watching John and Kate Plus 8 for a while now and have loved the show. I have a deep respect for Kat because she can handle all those children and maintain an organized home.  Up until about a year ago you could see the love for each other was deep and strong, but somewhere along the way they lost sight of each other's love. Last night they announced they were filing for divorce (they filed officially yesterday).

It made me a little teary to see Kate still so upset over this decision and a bit angry at John for not showing some kind of emotion.  I know what Kate is going through because I've gone through it myself so many years ago. Though I know what she meant by "I don't want to do this alone" when she referred to rearing the children by herself...it's a scary thing to think about.

I am glad to hear they decided that the kids would stay at the home and they would each take turns at the house. It was very mature of them to make that decision.

So sad to see a 10 year marriage go down the tubes due to a severe lack of communication...something they both admitted to.

  • So much fun!

I had so much fun at WWKIP (World Wide Knititng in Public) Day. I met 6 new ladies. There were 3 distinct groups. Two were official knitting groups....my little group had never met each other until today, so we called ourselves The Lone Knitters. lol

I got 1 preemie hat finished (a pink one) and a 2nd one (blue) about 1/2 way done. It is soooo tiny! I can fir just my 1st three fingers into the hat. I know I got the gauge right because Diane was in the NICU unit and I remember how tiny the preemie babies were.  The hat I knitted has alot of give so it will row with the baby for a month to maybe a month and 1/2? That's enough time to keep the baby warm.

I'm really glad I went...knitting the hats made me feel good and I felt like I was paying back all the kindness that was shown to me when Diane was so ill almost 16 years ago. I think I'm gonna go ahead and make more hats in varying sizes and finish out the blue and pink skiens I bought.

As soon as I got home, I grabbed my kniiting and joined the social here at the complex. I got $25 off my rent for going. It's not much but I think I will use the saving to take the kids to the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. I went when I was a teen and thought it was a very cool museum....they have a full display on their hunt (and execution) for Bonnie and Clyde. If you are interested in Texas Rangers or even gun slingers this is a very cool museum to go to.

  • KIP Please!

So KIP (Knit in Public Day) is tomorrow in Fort Worth at the Kimball Art Museum.  I'm really looking forward to it because it will give me a chance to get out of the house and away from my 3 kiddos for a while.  A little adult conversation from other ladies will be nice, too.  One can only take so much Twilight talk (Diane is very into the story line), boyfriends, girlfriends, World of Warcraft game talk and Spongebob for only so long.

When I get back, our apartment complex is having their monthly social. We are having a hot dog cookout and the pool is going to open. It's one of the nice perks to being here. I love the monthly socials. I get to meet some of my neighbors I don't normally get to meet and talk to.  We always have food and games. The games have nice prizes. One month I won 1/2 off my rent....that was a $475 savings for the month. Yes I pay $950 a month for our apartment, but it has been worth every penny. I feel safe here and the apartment complex isn't crappy to look at, Paige can play outside without me worrying too much about her and I have great neighbors (except the the 4 single people who live upstairs, that's another topic)...I feel proud to live here.

I was hoping my new swim suit would be in by now, but it's on back order.  I really like the look of this new swimsuit. It's a 2 piece (yes I know fat people should not wear 2 pieces), but it's a tank top and shorts/skirt (it looks like a tennis skirt). I am hoping it will look more flattering on me than the traditional 1 piece with the skirt when it is wet. The skirts have a tendency to stick to your legs and well it shows more fat (which I find gross) than I wish to show.  I am trying hard to keep from offending someone else's eyes while I take Paige swimming.

Well, guess I need to wake the kids up, take Daisy and my mom's Pom (Chewy...she's at the biker rally with Dad in Austin this weekend) out for a walk and get the day started.

  • Strep Throat sucks...

Ok so I started feeling real crap-tacular by Thursday and thought I was just feeling run down from all the school activities and my promise to have lunch with each kiddo before the end of school last week. By Friday, I had cold sweats, my throat was a bit sore and I thought I was either getting a summer cold and/or my allergies were going bananas because the mold count (which I am very sensitive to) was through the roof by the middle of last week.  By Saturday morning, I could not swallow because it hurt too bad.  Damon drove me to the local doctor, who did the "poke the back of your throat and see what we have there" test...good news was, my gag relflex works great, bad news very very bad case of Strep throat.....which cost me almost $200. If you wonder why it was so much? Damon lost his insurance benefits last week. The new benefits that are going to be offered will cost more than 75% of his current paycheck...Well we like to have a roof over our head and food on the table so we declined.

So where did I get the strep throat? A self-serve Coke fountain at the McDonald's in my Wal-Mart here in town. I stopped in briefly for a Dr. Pepper early last week because I desperately needed caffiene while I did some shopping.

This is not the 1st time I have gotten strep from these things...I got it 7 years ago from a CiCi's Coke fountain.  I really believe these should be against health regulations. Have you ever watched people refill their glasses? They place the rim of their dirty glass right up against the pour spout!
